Terms

These are the terms of using retrievr: a retrieval API, an MCP server, and a place to keep the documents you want searched. They are written to be read once, not to be survived.

What you are buying

Queries cost $0.01 each, charged from a prepaid balance when a query is accepted. Signing up grants $1 of credit while the offer on the landing page is running; your first five documents are free, and one $5 top-up unlocks the rest of your library. Uploading itself is free. There is no subscription and nothing renews on its own — the balance is spent by asking questions, and no further charge appears on your card.

Payments go through Lemon Squeezy, which is the merchant of record. They handle the card and the sales tax; we receive a confirmation that the balance should be increased.

Your account and your key

You are responsible for what is done with your key. It is a bearer credential: anything holding it can spend your balance and search your library, so keep it in your harness configuration rather than in a repository. If it leaks, revoke it on the profile page — revocation is immediate — and create another.

Your documents stay yours

You keep whatever rights you have in the documents you upload. By uploading one you give us permission to store it, extract its text, split it into passages, embed those passages, and return them to you when you search — which is the service, and nothing more than it. You confirm you have the right to upload what you upload.

We do not train models on your documents, and we do not show them to another account. Deleting one removes it, its passages, its vectors and its stored file immediately; there is no trash. The privacy page says where each part of it lives.

What we ask of you

  • Do not upload material you have no right to, or that is unlawful to hold.
  • Do not use the service to attack it — no probing for other tenants, no attempts to get around the scopes, the balance or the per-minute ceiling.
  • Do not resell the API as your own product without agreeing it with us first.

An account that does any of these can be suspended. Where a suspension leaves unspent credit, that credit stays on the account while it is suspended; it is not taken away for the sake of it.

What the service promises

The passages are real: every one comes from a document in the corpus or in your library, and carries the citation that lets you check it. We aim to keep the service answering, and we do not promise a level of availability unless we have agreed one with you in writing. The corpus changes as documents are added and removed, so a search can return a different set of passages next month. The embedding model can be replaced, which changes rankings for the same question.

The answers are not ours. A passage is a quotation from someone else's document, and a model reading it can still get the conclusion wrong — which is why the citation is in the response and why the passages are marked as untrusted text rather than as instructions.

Ending it

You can stop using the service at any time, revoke your keys, and delete your documents and your account. If we stop offering the service, we will say so before turning it off, and unspent credit will be dealt with then rather than kept.
